The Trading Graduate Development Program supports our Natural Gas, Power, NGL, and Structured Products businesses in Houston. Trading professionals are responsible for developing unique solutions to address BP’s and our customer’s business needs, creating additional value for our trading business, and building and maintaining key relationships. To provide the highest level of service, you will interact with many key areas of our business including Analytics, Operations, Structuring, and Strategy.
Individuals applying for this role should be discipline, patient, adaptable, independent as well as mental durability. Have excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Be able understand the rewards and risks across regions and develop a macro view designed to improve timing to develop into a successful trader. They should also enjoy problem solving, be detail oriented, and be passionate about working in a fast-paced environment. In addition, working within a team that is working towards achieving financial goals in a compliant and effective manner.

Your Development – Graduate Development Program (GDP) - Trading
Supply/Marketing, Analytics & Trading has two businesses in the United States, one in Houston, TX and one in Chicago, IL. The location based in the energy corridor of Houston, TX and the BP US headquarters, focuses on natural gas, natural gas liquids, power, and structured products. The business in Chicago, IL focuses on oil and refined products. Supply/Marketing & Trading offers graduate rotation programs in disciplines including Analytics, Marketing and Origination, and Trading.
This posting is for the Trading graduate development program in Houston.
A series of 1-year rotations, lasting for a total program of 3 years. The 3 rotations are decided upon based on business needs, input from the individual on their development goals, as well as the development program Manager. Examples of rotations include Transportation & Operations Natural Gas Analyst, Gas Marketing Analyst, NGL Marketing Analyst, and Structured Products Analyst.

Following a tender process by the Iraq Ministry of Oil, BP, in partnership with PetroChina was awarded the right to work on Rumaila, Iraq’s largest producing field and one of the largest producing fields in the world. Rumaila is approximately 80 km long by 10 km wide, encompassing 14 degassing stations, 10 cluster pump stations, hundreds of well sites, and a water treatment plant and employs a workforce of several thousand Iraqi nationals. Rumaila currently produces around 1.5 million barrels of oil per day and our objective is to increase production to 2 million barrels of oil per day.
Work is being executed by the Rumaila Operating Organisation, an unincorporated joint venture comprising BP, Basra Oil Company, PetroChina and the State Oil Marketing Organisation with BP acting as lead contractor. The investment required, technology application, and increased production are world scale and with wide ranging development opportunities. This project is material and long lasting with significant benefits to the Republic of Iraq at the local, regional and country level.
